The Egg – Warning! A Story That Will Blow Your Mind!

Yes. It is true. The story I am about to tell you will probably be one of THE BEST short stories you’ll read in your life… I have no doubt about that.

Also, this story will blow your mind to a whole new level, it will ascend your thinking and you will never think of life in the same way again. How I know this?

Well…

I’ll let you read it right now and you let me know if I’m wrong, ok?

THE EGG: by Andy Weir

You Have Died.

You were on your way home when you died.

It was a car accident, nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.

And that’s when you met me.

“What.. What happened?” You asked. “Where am I?”

“You died” I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.

“There was a… a truck and it was skidding…”

“Yep.” I said.

“I… I died?”

“Yep, but don’t feel bad about it. Everyone dies.” I said.

You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you & me. “What is this place?” You asked. “Is this the afterlife?”

“More or less.” I said.

“Are you God?” You asked.

“Yep.” I replied. “I am God.”

“My kids… my wife,” You said.

“What about them?”

“Will they be alright?”

“That’s what I like to see,” I said. “..You just died and your main concern is your family. That’s good stuff right there.”

You Looked At Me With Fascination.

To you I didn’t look like God. I just looked like some man or possibly a woman. Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty.

“Don’t worry.” I said. “They’ll be fine. Your kids will remember you as perfect in every way. They didn’t have time to grow contempt for you. Your wife will cry on the outside, but be secretly relieved. To be fair, your marriage was falling apart. If it’s any consolation, she’ll feel very guilty for feeling relieved.”

“Oh,” You said. “.. So what happens now? Do I go to heaven or hell or something?”

“Neither.” I said. “You’ll be reincarnated.”

“Ah,” You said. “.. So the Hindus were right.”

“All religions are right in their own way,” I said. “.. Walk with me.”

You Followed Along As We Strode Through The Void.

“Where are we going?”

“Nowhere in particular,” I said. “.. It’s just nice to walk while we talk.”

“So what’s the point, then?” You asked. “When I get reborn, I’ll just be a blank slate, right? A baby…So all my experiences and everything I did in this life won’t matter.”

“Not so!” I said. “You have within you all the knowledge and experiences of all past lives. You just don’t remember them right now.”

I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders.

“Your soul is more magnificent, beautiful, and gigantic than you can possibly imagine. A human mind can only contain a tiny fraction of what you are. It’s like sticking your finger in a glass of water to see if it’s hot or cold. You put a tiny part of yourself into the vessel, and when you bring it back out, you’ve gained all the experiences it had.”

“You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. If we hung out here for a long enough, you’d start remembering everything. But there’s no point to doing that between each life.”

“How many times have I been reincarnated, then?”

“Oh lots. Lots and lots… An in to lots of different lives.” I said. “This time around, you’ll be a Chinese peasant girl in 540 AD.”

“Wait, what?” You stammered. “You’re sending me back in time?”

“Well, I guess technically. Time, as you know it, only exists in your Universe. Things are different where I come from.”

“Where you come from?” You said.

“Oh sure,” I explained. “.. I come from somewhere. Somewhere else. And there are others like me. I know you’ll want to know what it’s like there, but honestly you wouldn’t understand.”

“Oh,” you said, a little let down. “.. but wait. If I get reincarnated to other places in time, I could have interacted with myself at some point.”

“Sure. Happens all the time. And with both lives only aware of their own lifespan you don’t even know its happening.”

“So what’s the point of it all?”

“Seriously?” I asked. “Seriously? You are asking me for the meaning of life? Isn’t that a little stereotypical?”

“Well it’s a reasonable question,” You persisted.

I Looked You In The Eye.

“The meaning of life, the reason I made this Whole Universe, is for YOU to mature.”

“You mean mankind? You want us to mature?”

“No, just YOU. I made this Whole Universe for YOU. With each new life YOU grow and mature and become a larger and greater intellect.”

“Just me? What about everyone else?”

“There is no one else,” I said. “.. In This Universe, there’s just YOU & ME.”

You stared blankly at me. “But all the people on Earth…”

“All you. Different incarnations of YOU.”

“Wait. I’m everyone!?”

“Now you’re getting it,” I said, with a congratulatory slap on the back.

“I’m every human being who ever lived?”

“Or who will ever live, yes.”

“I’m Abraham Lincoln?”

“I’m Hitler?” You said, appalled.

“And you are the millions he killed.”

“I’m Jesus?”

“And you’re everyone who followed him.”

You fell silent.

“Every time you victimized someone,” I said, “… You were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you’ve done, you’ve done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by YOU.”

You thought for a long time.

“Why?” You asked me. “Why do all this?”

“Because someday, YOU will become like me. Because that’s what you are. You’re one of my kind. You’re my child.”

“Whoa,” you said, incredulous. “You mean I’m a god?”

“No. Not yet. You’re a fetus. You’re still growing. Once you’ve lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born.”

“So the Whole Universe,” You said, “… it’s just…”

“An egg.” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to move on to your next life.”

And I sent you on your way.

Conclusion

The feeling you feel right now like you are levitating over yourself that’s your mind being blown. Elevated. You’ve Ascended to a whole new level.

I wish you have a mirror right now to see your face

And yes, it is inevitable to think about this when you meet someone else.

You will start questioning yourself “Can my mother, or my brother, my kid, my wife, my best friend, all be me?” You’ll think of this when you talk with them.

You’ll start questioning even more, “Can this sexy waitress, or Leonardo DiCaprio, or Ghandi, all those terrorists, politicians, soldiers who died in wars, my boss.. Could all of them be really ME?”

But that’s ok.

Question. Question everything and everyone.

Start seeing The Universe through this prism. Start seeing The World and everyone in it with this eye.

So what if this is just a story, it’s the story we believe in that matters. And maybe it’s time to change the story and accept a new one. A story which will make The World a better place.

It’s not which story is true. ALL OF THEM ARE.

It’s which story makes YOU a better person. A GOD.

P.S. When I think about it, YOU wrote this text for yourself.

3 Powerful Tools For Pineal Gland Activation

Joshua Eagle, Guest Writer

Of all of the countless foods, exercises and techniques used to help awaken and activate the pineal gland, perhaps none exist with as much power to take you to the highest levels of human consciousness than the following 3 tools. Since there are no quick fixes or shortcuts to activating and strengthening the pineal gland, the following techniques mentioned require self-discipline, dedication and a burning desire for ascended health and consciousness.

Ayahuasca

Ayahuasca is a sacred tea made from the vine of the Ayahuasca plant mixed with the leaves of the Chakruna bush. In the Amazon, Ayahuasca is considered the pinnacle healing medicine of the rainforests entire medical system, containing the ability to heal people on a physiological, energetic, emotional and spiritual level, from various ailments of different types.

In terms of the brain, the unique tryptamines and organic phytochemicals contained in the Ayahuasca tea works to gradually clean out every synaptic chain and neuronal cell in the brain, while simultaneously activating and stimulating the brains pituitary, hypothalamus and pineal gland to their higher functioning states. Being that various synthetic chemicals and toxins such as fluoride and heavy metals tend to get lodged in the brain’s fatty tissue and disrupt it’s electromagnetic and energetic functioning, the tea of Ayahuasca is of particular use to most people in our modern times, if just solely to help cleanse the brain and body of the 44,000+ manmade chemicals introduced into our environment since the industrial revolution.

One of the main modes in which Ayahuasca works to clean out the pineal gland and brain is through the act of methylation. Methylation problems in the body are associated with pesticides and chemicals being sprayed into our environment which the body is unable to recognize and metabolize. Methyl-donors in our body, which work to identify toxins and route them out for elimination, can become depleted when one’s body encounters too much toxicity for the liver to handle. It is in these circumstances where plants containing an abundance of methyl-donors are particularly helpful. The top three foods containing methyl-donors in order are:

  • Ayahuasca
  • Beets
  • Goji Berries

The specific methylating compound in Ayahuasca which works to jump-start this detoxification process is frequently referred to as DMT or di-methyl-tryptamine. The DMT molecule – which is found present in every single living animal and plant – only becomes bioavailable when it is combined with an MAO-inhibitor plant that prevents it from being too rapidly metabolized by the body. In the case of Ayahuasca, the Chakruna leaf is the DMT containing plant and the Ayahuasca contains the MAO-inhibiting properties which allows for the DMT to become bioavailable.

Meditation

Meditation is the art of mastering the mind through the development and strengthening of one’s awareness. Being that the subconscious mind is constantly dumping thoughts at random into the conscious mind and can hijack one’s consciousness and attention, it is critical that one develop their capacity to master their mind so that they can steer it in the direction they truly want.

As the barriers between the subconscious and conscious mind are gradually dissolved through the act of meditation, one progressively gains more and more of a leash over their consciousness, which in turn enables them to direct their will power more precisely into what they truly aim to accomplish with their life.

Being that our mind/brain is constantly in action in both our waking lives and dreaming lives, it is an organ of the body that is typically deprived of enough time to be rested and rejuvenated. In meditation, one seeks to relax the mind through putting one’s awareness and intention on stillness. In this state one allows themselves to stop their thoughts and worries and just be at peace for the meditations duration. If and when thoughts arise during meditation, it is the meditator’s mission to not engage in the thought, but to view it from a third person perspective without identifying with it.

Through the practice of this act, one gains more mastery over the subconscious mind and as well as a better perspective on their own undesirable mental programs that may be running like a feedback loop. As one progresses in meditation and the mind acquires more and more stillness, tension in the mind from over-active thinking is reduced and the grey matter of the brain becomes more soft and flexible. In turn the pineal gland which sits in the center of the right and left hemispheres of the brain is enabled to function with greater energetic receptivity and transmutation.

Fasting

What do Jesus, Moses, Buddha and Socrates all have in common? Answer: They all engaged in the practice of fasting. In turn it may be no surprise that one of the best time tested ways to improve mental clarity and rejuvenate the brain, body and soul is through partaking in a fast.

Digestive systems are constantly being bombarded by the food we eat throughout the day, and as a result are often playing a never ending game of catch-up to eliminate old food and digest new food. In this state of constant digestion our bodies are never given a chance to rest and detoxify properly. When a fast is finally undertaken, a massive weight is taken off of the body which frees up large amounts of energy. This new energy is used to produce Human Growth Hormone which stimulates the production of new brain cells and neurons.

A study out of Intermountain Medical Center showed that people who partook in a 24 hour fast had between a 1300% to 2000% increase in Human Growth Hormone as a result. The biggest brain benefit from fasting however may be provided as a result of the detoxification that occurs during a fast. Since the body no longer has to work to eliminate new toxins, it is permitted to backtrack and clean up older stored toxins that have compiled in the brain and body throughout the course of a person’s life. As a fast progresses the body is enabled to consume everything that is not essential to its proper functioning. This includes bacteria, viruses, fibroid tumours, accumulated waste such as chemicals, heavy metals, pesticides, fluoride and other toxins are allowed to be further eliminated from the body as a result.

One who is new to fasting can begin by skipping a meal during the day. From there one can move onto juice fasting and/or spring water fasting. People suffering from disease or those on medication should always consult a healthcare professional before partaking in a fast.

A Little Green Revolution: The Rainbow Warriors Will Heal The Earth Mother

Ethan Indigo SmithGuest Writer

“When the Earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come onto the Earth of many colours, creeds and classes, and by their actions and deeds shall make the Earth green again. They shall be known as the warriors of the rainbow.” – Hopi

The Native Americans saw the European newcomers as being spiritually afflicted. There were probably many descriptions for the craze, but one that survived is Wendigo. A Wendigo is a legendary Algonquin monster. A human infected with the Wendigo devours the proverbial or actual flesh/life force of other people, places and things with insatiable hunger.

Wendigo psychosis is similar to the Hopi description of Two-Hearts. The expression is similar to two-faced, but goes beyond it. A Two-Hearts will speak one way with you and another way about you. Two-Hearts masquerade like they are kind, when all the while they’re the ones holding people in binds. A real unhindered human being leads self with his heart and the mind follows. Two-Hearts allow the heart of another to control them, usually the imaginary, empty heart of an institution. They then speak and act for another entity and have two hearts to feed.

Ten thousand years of developmental permaculture and living in spiritual unison with Mother Earth doesn’t just happen. In fact the Hopi founded their home in the harsh Arizona desert as part of a plan; there they would all have to cooperate because of the harsh desert environment. The American Indian tribes have many stories about how conditions had to be just hard enough so they did not grow soft, fat and weak essentially and so that they maintained strong brotherhood.

The Rule of The Seven Generations

Native Americans lived according to the Rule of The Seven Generations and foretold the Prophecy of the Seven Generations as a warning to the gold crazed Europeans. The Rule of The Seven Generations is to consider the impact of one’s actions for seven generations in the future.

The gold hungry adventurers arrived and called Turtle Island (name for North America) ‘The New World’ partly because it was so well taken care of and partly to reinforce the idea that it was open for the taking.

On seeing mining, forestry and trophy hunting, the people of Turtle Island predicted negative outcomes seven generations after the Europeans takeover. Known as The Prophecy of the Seven Generations, it’s said birds would fall from the sky, the air would burn the eyes of men and fish would perish in undrinkable water.

“In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.”Iroquois Maxim

Another specific warning shared by many different peoples from Chile to Alaska; digging up the guts of Earth Mother will unearth great tragedy. About seven generations ago, mining for gold and precious metals was the main illustrated danger. Such mining reinforced crazed genocide and today about half the rivers in the U.S.A. are toxic to life – just like foretold in The Prophecy of The Seventh Generation – mainly due to digging up Earth Mother.

“If we dig precious things from the land we will perish.” – Hopi Prophecy

We are in the time of the seventh generation. Today we face total environmental degradation and destruction and today is the time of the NWO.

The Time of the NWO

NWO is used as the abbreviation for the New World Order. But what is new about the New World Order? The world is the same now as at any other time. The overall concept and design is basically the same, only now more technologically reinforced, more centralized and globalized. The institutional structures behind the dogmatic political trickery are basically the same and the bureaucracies are about equally rigid, favouring institutions over individuals by just about how much people will tolerate.

The order of The New World Order, society today, is basically the same as it ever was; oligarchical and pyramidal. The newness of the New World Order is not the order, but the world, the polluted, environmentally degraded netherworld of ever increasing toxicity and radioactivity spun by digging up and burning up the guts of Earth Mother.

The only thing new or transformed about the world is our environment, our water, our air, our entirety. It is newly depleted, polluted and has been everywhere marginalized and sporadically made totally toxic and permanently uninhabitable; Hanford, Chernobyl and Fukushima are a few of the more well-known locales ruined and permanently releasing poison. All the elements of the world have been permeated with the toxins of our collective creation, from cannibalizing the guts of The Earth Mother like a couple billion Wendigos.

The Five Claws of the Wendigo

The toxins humanity has unleashed upon the world can be categorized into five sources of destruction, the five claws of the Wendigo.

The first source of death and destruction, perhaps the one most demanding of our immediate attention, is global nuclear experimentation; this includes the recent utilization of “depleted” uranium as ammunition, the hundreds of power generation experiments across the planet and the thousands of detonations of the past which produced radioactive particles that still ride the wind, freckle the soil and spark your bones.

The second contributor to global environmental destruction is the extraction and burning of fossil fuels; oil, natural gas and coal included. The nuclear era began the day the first nuke went off in New Mexico, the petrolithic era began the day Diesel died. Rudolph Diesel designed his Diesel engine to be fuelled with locally sourced biofuels or earthly sourced petroleum if locally available so as to power locals, not to build up globalization.

Diesel died at sea under mysterious circumstances.

The third contributor to global environmental destruction is the tendency to resource our goods from digging up and cannibalizing Mother Earth. Mining leaves land ruined permanently and spreads toxins far and wide. The related plasticization of packaging and products has resulted in the throwaway society that poisons land and sea. Plastics are petroleum products, all of which are replaceable with less toxic alternatives obtainable through agricultural sources, particularly the conveniently illegal crop of hemp. Plastics are just another petroleum product of the petrolithic era, but plastic by itself, littered about like mined carbon, is as destructive to life as it is offensive to look at. The plasticization of our waters, rivers and oceans alike, permanently poisons, just as mining for minerals does.

The fourth major contribution to the netherworld oligarchy is the planetary war state. Nuclear experimentation as a whole could simply fall into this category, if it were not so insidiously destructive on its own. The conundrum of nuclear experimentation, spawned from war, reflects the haunting problems of the planetary war state. The war state takes, steals and kills. It makes all in the present poorer, destroys the environment and leaves death and horror equivalent to nightmares of karma demons for future generations. War poisons the present and the foreseeable future. The war state takes directly and kills people, and indirectly removes potential and quality of life those who would want peace.

The fifth claw of the Wendigo world, the fifth purveyor of the netherworld is corporate controlled factory farming/food production. The very essence of our growing children and our sustenance has been transformed into a pay by the pound business, where nutrition is meaningless. Bayer/Monsanto and DuPont among others have genetically modified our food – the fruits of Mother Earth – so they can withstand toxic pesticides which kill pests and any creatures that go near the stuff while its growing. Toxic pesticides and fertilizers end up in the food chain and water sources. Corporations also raise animals in overcrowded conditions resulting in hazards for the animals, the surrounding environment and belittled quality food.

The five claws of the Wendigo world are controlled by an ill-informed and ill-minded collective. Each problem is rooted in selfish and misdirected thinking. Each of these problems on its own is horrendous and each related, and can be traced to our collective state of mind. The destructive claws are the result of our real problem; ourselves.

Interrelated Systems of the Wendigo

The extraction, refinement and distribution of dangerous fuels, both petrolithic and nuclear, is the primary polluter of the world’s air, water and whole regions, and likely the main producers of carcinogens which spurred if not initiated the cancer era. Most plastic is a petroleum product combined with chemicals. All energy and all plastic could be sourced from agriculture, in cooperation with the Earth Mother instead of working against her. All our agricultural processes could be fashioned in a way that is cooperative with all the Earth Mother’s creatures; the creatures labelled as pests that ultimately the very soil is dependent on and integrated with.

However such systems would not be oligarchical in formation and would not profit the controlling few. There are always natural, viable choices beneficial to all life, however these are labelled as alternative because they would benefit everything instead of paying an elite few.

Perhaps war is ultimately the worst destroyer of the Earth Mother and society. War is the great expander of environmental entropy and societal stagnancy, leaving ruin no matter the weapon used. It causes destruction and leaves people unmotivated and incapable to build the environment. Whether it is a war on terror or a war on drugs, or war for Kuwait or war for anything, all war is detrimental to the whole planet and all war limits the quality life of all individuals. All war harms and hinders future generations.

The fast food diet, the live-to-eat mentality as opposed to the eat-to-live character, is destroying the planet and increasing the culture of separation. We eat food of unknown origin from plastic containers and throw them out without knowing where they’ll go. Such uncaring consumption without consideration of what is involved in raising a plant or an animal is destroying the world. It’s parasitic. Conventional monoculture and genetic modification – based on allowing a plant to survive being dosed out on petrochemicals – could have biological impacts on humanity and the ecosystem that will be comparable to horror movies.

These systems are all interrelated like fingers of a Wendigo claw. The most stark and main commonality; they are oligarchical to the Nth degree, to the Netherworld degree. All these systems benefit a very few people and cost entirety. These operations are so deadly they cost everyone alive and future generations, yet unborn will have to pay the environmental costs, basically forever equating the netherworld oligarchy of environmental destruction to the Nth degree.

The Rainbow Warriors

The Wendigo claw can only be confronted with an open human hand. Only by sharing and caring with an open hand and open and mind is the Wendigo defeated.

A rainbow is made up from clarity and also is a reflection of every color. A rainbow represents no thing and all things at the same time. In order to be clear, one must first shed any Two-Heartedness so as to stop feeding the Wendigo. When one resides in one’s own heart, without impulses to speak for and eat for a second heart of an institution, further clarity from institutional mediation is possible. A rainbow warrior is of no thing. A rainbow warrior represents no institution. And at the same a rainbow warrior represents all things. A rainbow warrior stands up for every individual. Instead of a wielding a sword, the rainbow warrior has a clear heart and open hands accompanied with a clear message that all people can understand; such as “the Wendigo world failed, let’s come together to heal Earth Mother”.

“When I was ten years of age I looked at the land and the rivers, the sky above, and the animals around me and could not fail to realize that they were made by some great power. I was so anxious to understand this power that I questioned the trees and the bushes. It seemed as though the flowers were staring at me, and I wanted to ask them “Who made you?” I looked at the moss-covered stones; some of them seemed to have the features of a man, but they could not answer me.

“Then I had a dream, and in my dream one of these small round stones appeared to me and told me that the maker of all was Wakan Tanka, and that in order to honour Him I must honour His works in nature. The stone said that, by my search, I had shown myself worthy of supernatural help. It said that if I were curing a sick person I might ask its assistance, and that all the forces of nature would help me work a cure.”Tatanka-ohitika, Brave Buffalo.

Hypnagogia: The Trippy Mental State That Is The Key To Deep Self-Discovery

Published

on

Hypnagogia

Mateo SolGuest Writer

What is Hypnagogia?

We all know that there are two primary states of consciousness: wakefulness and sleep. But did you know that there is also an in-between state? This state is called Hypnagogia, a word that derives from the Greek words “hypnos” (sleep) and “agogos” (leading), meaning the state that leads into sleep.

Have you ever had a nap and experienced a strange trance-like state in which images, colours, sounds, even dream-like stories play out in your mind? Have you ever found yourself falling asleep and seeing a kaleidoscope of colours and shapes fleet in and out of your mind… or strange things like horses turning into helicopters? These experiences are hypnagogia in action and it’s likely that you experience hypnagogia multiple times a week, or even every day before you fall asleep!

So how can this unusual limbo state contribute to our self-understanding and spiritual growth? In this article, I’ll explain how.

Types of Hypnagogia

Depending on whether you are primarily a visual (image-oriented), auditory (sound-oriented), or kinesthetic (physically-oriented) person (you can take a test here), your hypnogogic experience will vary.

Here are common ways hypnagogia is experienced:

  • Images – e.g. monochromatic or colourful, static or moving, flat or three-dimensional – usually the images are fleeting but sometimes they form entire dream-like scenes
  • Sounds – may be loud or quiet and involve hearing music, voices, snatches of conversation, rain, wind, white noise, repetitive words, having one’s name called, etc.
  • Repetitive actions – known as the “Tetris effect,” when a person has spent a long time doing something repetitive (such as working, playing chess, exercising, reading) they may find themselves doing the same thing as they fall into the hypnagogic state
  • Physical sensations – tastes, scents, textures, and sensations of coldness and heat may be experienced during hypnagogia, as well as feelings of floating, falling, leaving one’s body or having one’s body change shape
  • Mental processes – at the edge of sleep thoughts begin to take a fluid and free-associative quality in which they morph and evolve in unusual, abstract, and innovative ways, uninfluenced by the ego
  • Sleep paralysis – the temporary inability to move may, in some occurrences, accompany hypnagogia, however while this state may be alarming, it is harmless

It is also possible (and common) to experience multiple forms of hypnagogia. For example, you might visually enter a memory from the day that transforms before your eyes into an array of physical sensations and sounds. The combinations are limitless.

Spiritual Oneiromancy, Dali, and Dream Yoga

Throughout history, there have been many writers, artists, and philosophers who have used hypnagogia as a way of triggering new ideas, insights, and even inventions.

Artist Salvador Dali, writer Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein), and inventor Thomas Edison are some of the most notable historical figures who have used hypnagogia to stimulate saucy new ideas. Both Dali and Edison, for example, used very similar techniques of sitting down with objects in their hands (a key for Dali and brass balls for Edison) and waking up once the object fell and hit the floor. This sudden awakening allowed them to quickly jolt out of their hypnagogic slumber and write down the thoughts and images that had been dancing through their minds.

In Tibetan Buddhism, hypnagogic states are used as a way of practicing “dream yoga.” Dream yoga is a form of spiritual practice that is based on the premise that dream-like states can be used to train the mind to enhance spiritual awareness. This self-discipline can contribute to the experience of enlightenment.

In the modern age, there’s a niche of people who refer to themselves as Oneiromancers; or individuals who use dreams as a form of divination. The word Oneiromancy comes from the Greek ‘oneiros’ (dream) and ‘manteia’ (prophecy). Such people commonly use and interpret dreams as a way of prophesying the future.

Even psychologists such as Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud have taken an intense interest in dreams and their potential meanings. Jung was notorious for his fascination with dreams and their connection with the unconscious mind since childhood.

I can’t personally vouch for the divination aspect of dreams (as in ‘oneiromancy,’ although I have had prophetic dreams). Furthermore, I believe that predicting the future is useless and a major distraction unless it is accompanied with work grounded in the present-moment. That is why my approach to dreams and hypnagogia specifically is targeted towards psychological growth. Without understanding yourself, meeting your shadow self, uncovering and dealing with old traumas and wounds, and integrating what you find, you won’t get very far. All of the dream work in the world will be just that: a bunch of fantasy.

How to Use Hypnagogia to Explore Your Unconscious Mind

“Hypnagogia is the shortest path for communication from our subconscious.” – Sirley Marques Bonham Ph.D,

In the secular world, hypnagogia is often used as a way of stimulating creativity. But I propose, similar to the Tibetan Buddhists and their ‘Dream Yoga’ and Carl Jung and his technique of ‘Active Imagination,’ that hypnagogia can be used for deep psychological discovery as well.

By seeking to find patterns, interpreting the images that arise, and coming in contact with the fragmented aspects of yourself, hypnagogia is a powerful form of self-exploration, and one with the potential of uniting you with your Soul’s Wholeness and ultimate purpose.

The unconscious mind is the part of our brain that contains everything we have buried away and forgotten: memories, defence mechanisms, wounds, ancestral traumas, archetypal forces or ‘sub-personalities’ – you name it.

In the trance-like state of hypnagogia we are able to observe our unconscious mind and its contents as it begins to bubble to the surface.

If you want to learn a simple and effective way of using hypnagogia to explore your unconscious, practice the one below:

1. Set an intention – ‘Prime’ your mind and get it ready before you go to sleep or have an afternoon nap. You can do this by constantly thinking about what it is you want to explore about 20-30 minutes before you go to rest. For example, your intention might be to find out why you struggle to have self-control around certain people, what mental belief is blocking your happiness, what your Shadow wants to tell you, or anything that is to do with you as a person. I find that it helps to be very clear about my intention and summarize it into a sentence. You can even write this sentence on a piece of paper if it helps. For example, your summarized intention might be “I want to understand why I always attract the wrong partners,” “I want to discover how to strengthen my social boundaries,” “I want to find out why I feel so unhappy and lost,” etc. Meditating on your intention is also a powerful way of priming your mind beforehand.

2. Find something to record your experience – Before you enter hypnagogia, find a notebook, journal, sketch pad, or voice activated recorder (there are mobile apps for that), and place it next to your bed/sofa/chair.

3. Set a gentle alarm – It takes on average about 10 to 20 minutes to fall asleep. So take a moment to consider how long it takes you on average to fall asleep. Do you go under quickly? In this case you might like to set the alarm on your phone or clock to 10 minutes. If you take a long time to fall asleep, experiment with setting your alarm to 20 minutes. With experience, and assessment of how tired you are beforehand, you’ll be able to skilfully adjust the alarm to the perfect amount of time that you need.

4. Take a nap – Remember, your intention isn’t to fall asleep, (although if that happens, don’t worry, it can take practice!). Lie down on your bed, sofa, or whatever is comfortable, and relax. Let your body and mind drift off into a soft and hazy stupor. Completely unwind and let yourself be still.

5. Observe your mind – It is not always possible to clearly observe your mind, particularly when your consciousness is fading, which is why this step takes practice. You can use the sensation of your breath or chest rising and falling to help anchor yourself to awareness as you notice what is going on.

6. Time to record! – Bzzzz! At some point your alarm will go off. (Hopefully you set a gentle alarm, because loud obnoxious alarms can really be, well, alarming.) Once you’ve woken up, record what you have heard, seen, felt, or experienced. Do this quickly so that you don’t forget.

7. Interpretation – Reflect on what you have written, drawn or recorded. What are the first thoughts or feelings that pop into your mind? If you experience a strong physical/emotional ‘aha!’ reaction, you have found the right interpretation. Does your interpretation inspire, excite, or shock you? If so, it is probably correctly interpreted. According to Jungian analyst Robert A. Johnson, the best way to tell if you have interpreted dream imagery correctly is by the level of energy behind it. In other words, if your interpretation feels flat, dull, or lifeless, it is likely wrong. But if it feels alive and thrilling, you’ve likely found your answer.

Also, remember that hypnagogic imagery can be very abstract or very straight-forward – it is quite unpredictable. Sometimes it takes a while to interpret what you have experienced. Sometimes the material of your mind won’t be relevant to your question or intention. Keep practicing. Often images, words, sounds, and sensations may feel completely unrelated to your question. But when you revisit them a few days later, something may ‘click’ and you might suddenly discover how pertinent and symbolic they are.

8. Meditate on your discovery – After you have interpreted your hypnagogic content, sit and reflect on it. Meditate on its implications, lessons, and advice. I encourage you to journal about your experiences with hypnagogia as it will deepen your capacity to learn and grow from the practice.

Hypnagogia is a trippy, fascinating, kaleidoscopic world full of endless potential and possibility. Best of all, it provides an easy gateway to your unconscious mind. By taking advantage of this fleeting state of mind, you have the opportunity and ability to solve problems, gain guidance, and experience more peace and inner Wholeness.

Have you experimented with hypnagogic imagery before?

“Ayni is responsibility and respect. Ayni is love and compassion. Ayni is everything. And it is us. Reciprocity.” – J. Wilcox

Throughout the ages, shamanic tribes and traditions have all agreed on one thing which science confirms: life is one big pulsating field of energy.

You and I are both part of this vibrating web of energy, as well as every single thing you perceive. Rocks, trees, animals, rivers, computers, cars, buildings, fire, clouds, even the human mind, and emotions — it’s all energy.

As a result of everything being energy and therefore connected at a core level, whatever we do has consequences. Whatever thoughts, feelings and actions we carry out impacts the world around us in ways we can’t even fathom.

Often, this simple principle that every action has a reaction causes a wave of events to crash down on our lives, leaving us feeling panicked, resentful and emotionally stingy towards others (and ourselves). We wonder why our lives seem so damaged and flawed when deep down we aren’t aware that our thoughts have created our reality.

If you’re feeling jealous, suspicious, guarded and as if your life is being lived in mental, emotional, financial and spiritual poverty, read on.

Why it’s Vital to Understand the Principle of Ayni

We human beings are used to pillaging the earth, taking what we want, and focusing solely on our own needs. This selfishness is a natural part of our conscious collective evolution as a species.

How often do you take the time to stop, examine all that you have been blessed with, and offer your thanks to Life, God or Spirit? In our materialistic society, most people equate gratitude with fluffy and impractical New Age concepts. But gratitude is an immensely powerful force as it is an expression of sacred reciprocity.

Having Incan heritage, I learned about Ayni early on in life. It was my grandmother who taught me that Ayni, which is loosely translated to “sacred reciprocity” or “proper relationship” is the central principle of life. As opposed to Western thought that believes creation is solely predatory, in Andean thought, creation is inherently benevolent and will live in harmony with us if we live in harmony with it.

In other words, when we don’t cultivate the right relationship with the earth, we reap the natural consequences. We can clearly see the principle of Ayni reflected in our current world: as a result of disrespecting the earth through annihilation of species, pollution, and degradation, the earth has begun to desert us. Pachamama has delivered us drought, floods, pestilence and climate change in exchange for our greed and narcissism.

Ayni, or sacred reciprocity, is the fundamental law of life because, without it, we live in extreme disharmony that results in suffering. In fact, the principle of Ayni is so vital that it is the only genuine moral rule in the Q’ero (Incan) tradition which is otherwise flexible and fluid.

Ayni is gratitude, respect, honour and reciprocal living. Put simply, Ayni is about recognizing that all of life exists in a sacred balance of give and take. When we practice Ayni we send a message to Existence and partake in the gifts that Life, in exchange, gives back to us. In other words, when observing Ayni we give back to the earth whenever we receive, and by giving to the earth, we know that we’ll be privileged to get something back in return.

How to Manifest Abundance Using Ayni

“Pachamama, the earth, is the first mother, the true mother, the spirit mother. From her we have all been given form and substance, and it is largely her will that determines the quantity and quality of our worldly sustenance. It is to her, and to the spirits of the rain and the hail and the other elements that exist within her domain, that Andeans owe the very conditions of their lives. Therefore every action they undertake is necessarily an act of ayni, or reciprocity, with Pachamama. Before any food is eaten or liquid is drunk, a portion is offered to the Earth Mother. Before a spade is thrust into a field, or before a river is crossed, or before a thousand other mundane actions are undertaken, an offering is made to the Mother.” – J. Wilcox

Everything in life is Ayni, sacred reciprocity. Everything from our relationships to the chemical reactions within matter reflect Ayni. Even our bodies express Ayni: our breath is supported by our lungs, our lungs are supported by blood and neurochemical reactions, and our neurochemical reactions are supported by our hearts, which are supported by the food we eat.

When it comes to manifesting abundance in our lives — whether that be financial, physical, emotional, mental or spiritual — we have to keep in mind that every action has a consequence, no matter how small. Ayni helps us to realize that we are not made to exist in an abusive relationship with the earth. In other words, we don’t own the earth (as the Abrahamic religions and Descartes would have us believe). Instead, we are a part of the earth and therefore must treat it with respect.

By treating the earth with respect, we learn how to treat ourselves with respect. By expressing gratitude for what we’ve been given, we receive even more to be thankful for.

Here are five simple ways to manifest abundance in your life using the principle of Ayni:

1. Offer sincere gratitude for what has been given to you

You might think that you’ve “earned” what you have. But you haven’t. Did you control the circumstances that led you to the opportunities that helped you to prosper? No. Did you control the people, environment or social climate that led to your success? No. What you have has been given to you through the grace of Life. The human ego loves to believe that it is solely responsible for its success, but this is what leads to selfish and destructive living.

The first step in manifesting abundance is to sincerely offer your gratitude to Life for what you’ve been given. Examine all that you have right now (even if you don’t have that much): look at the food, house, family, clothing, job, entertainment and/or security that you have. Consider what life would be like without these things.

You can offer your gratitude through a simple prayer that is heartfelt. For example, “Dear Life/God/Spirit, thank you deeply for what you have given me. All that I have is from You, and all that I have will return back to You. Thank you for gracing my life with Your loving kindness.”

2. Make respecting the earth your priority

So much of what we buy impacts the earth in a severe way. By choosing non-toxic, biodegradable, sustainable and ethically sourced options, you are performing Ayni, or sacred reciprocity. You might not think of it this way, but what you choose to spend money on contributes to the harmony or disharmony of the planet.

3. Do an earth-honouring ceremony to honour Ayni

Once a week, or whenever you feel the need, offer something back to the earth through a ceremony.

Earth-honouring ceremonies can be as simple or complex as you like. For example, you could sprinkle food scraps at the base of a tree, create an elaborate despacho (read more about despachos), or even practice mindful gardening. When you honour the earth, thank the trees, wind, sky, rain, sun and elemental forces for blessing your life.

4. Nurture and protect life

Everything on earth has just as much a right to be here as you. When you nurture Nature, Life nurtures you in exchange. This is the principle of Ayni. For example, instead of killing the spider or fly within your house, why not catch them and release them outside? Instead of exterminating all pests in your garden, why not choose organic alternatives to restore the natural equilibrium? After all, nature knows best how to care for herself.

You might also like to practice small acts of kindness to wildlife or flora. For instance, if you see a snail on the path, why not move it out of the way so it doesn’t get crushed? If you have the opportunity to save or support a local wetland, why not protect it?

5. Consecrate the ground beneath your feet

Wherever you are, bless the ground beneath your feet. Thank the earth for supporting your house, for the food it provides you, and for everything you have that traces its roots back to the earth. Bless the earth and ask that it thrives with health, abundance, balance and peace. Consecrating the earth beneath you can even become a mantra that assists you in meditation. For example, a beautiful Ayni mantra could be “Earth, may I honour you, Earth, may you honour me.”

So many articles and books out there are written about attracting and “manifesting” abundance. But a large percentage of them are written with the perception that Life is at our bidding and will “serve” us if we know how to “make” it.

Ayni is a principle of equality, respect and the mutual flow of giving and receiving. Ayni acknowledges that we aren’t slave-drivers of the planet, but we’re instead interconnected members of it.

Quite simply, if you want to receive more, GIVE more. Give your gratitude, give your love, give your support, give your attention. Paradoxically, the only way to receive more is to give more. And by giving, you naturally receive.
