For 40 minutes, four astronauts vanished.
No radio. No contact. Nothing reaching Earth.
On 6 April 2026, the Artemis II crew flew behind the Moon, further than any humans in history.
And for those 40 minutes, nobody on the ground knew what they were seeing.
What they captured out there is below, and it’s worth every second.
But first, here’s what the mission really revealed.
What Did the Artemis II Crew Actually See?

The crew: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen.
Orion launched from Florida on 1 April 2026, the first crewed Moon mission since Apollo 17 in 1972.
NASA Just Found Something Impossible on This Moon
On day six, Orion passed just over 4,000 miles above the surface, close enough to see craters no human eye had ever witnessed directly.
As the Moon blocked their path, the astronauts watched Earth vanish — an Earthset. Then it rose again, an Earthrise from an angle nobody alive had seen before.
At one exact moment, Orion, the Moon, and the Sun lined up — a total solar eclipse, viewed from deep space.
What the crew saw with their own eyes was remarkable enough. But the Moon itself had already been keeping a stranger secret.
Why Is the Moon’s Far Side So Strange?
The Moon’s far side looks nothing like the side we see every night.
Scientists have studied it for decades. Some of what they’ve found still doesn’t add up.
Beneath the South Pole-Aitken basin, the largest crater in the solar system, satellite data has detected something enormous.
A mass, roughly five times the size of Hawaii, buried deep beneath the surface.
The crust out there is also around 50 kilometres thicker than the near side. Nobody fully agrees why.
None of this needed aliens to be strange. The real science already was.
What Do the Viral Alien Photos Actually Show?
Within hours, a very different story began spreading online.
Images claiming to show “unexplained structures.” Vivid, colourful shots. Unlike anything from an official source.
Fact-checkers moved fast.
PolitiFact traced several back to AI-generated content and unrelated astrophotography, falsely relabelled as Artemis II footage.
NASA’s real photos showed exactly what you’d expect: grey, cratered terrain. Nothing resembling structures of any kind.
The real Moon never needed an alien story to be worth paying attention to.

Do you think NASA is holding anything back about the far side, or is the real science already strange enough?
